APRÈS

Après Sessions embrace embodied and progressive practices. Holistic Health. Train Your Brain. Find Your Freedom.

What’s next?  SESSION IT

Our holistic approach to optimal health and performance empowers you to discover your true potential.

Everything we do is about finding your freedom.

Why “Après”? Because “after” coaching, you will find your line.

Inspired by riding mountains and surfing oceans, Après Coaching Sessions are a nod to the discipline and diligence necessary to master these epic environments, the freedom found in doing so, and the reward of post-excursion celebrations known as après-ski. Après Sessions, on and off the mountain, are holistic meaning an integrated whole experience.

Holistic health coaching considers the whole human system to spearhead what we find in the state of “flow” resulting in optimal performance and wellness in all realms of life.

RUN WITH WOLVES

run-intuition-rightbrain

While many within business and career are left-brain dominant, it is so refreshing to continually meet those also leaning into working from another realm. Those who collaborate, share, listen, learn, support and allow for that leftover percentage of space available after “I”, “You”, and “We”. The space where we not only co-author our experiences, but co-allow for a little more expansion.

Much like the saying about the gods laughing while you make plans…

We believe in planning, visualization and taking action. But while you dive deep into spreadsheets, networking events, claiming barely-there friendships, going super hard after potential clients until they formulate or oops disappear, doing what you know to be THE way because of what you were taught in school… are you actually shutting out another entire realm of possibility? By living and working solely from a place society deems civilized, we more often than not lose creativity and gain fear.

Get quiet and pretend you know nothing about anything. Listen. Listen deeply. To others. To yourself. What do you hear? Trust that.

A pack of wolves doesn’t have a plan per se. They run, they protect, they are intensely relational by nature and highly involved with their mates, their young, and their pack. Keen, sensing, playful, devoted. Loyal, hard-working, reliable, yet know when to rest. Diligent yet simultaneously BE-ing. Wolves adapt to constantly changing circumstances. They are deeply intuitive. As humans we have lost a sense of trust, trusting ourselves, and therefore one another. We have lost much in the way of elemental experience allowing for further cultivation of intuition. There is a re-wilding within all of us that desperately needs to take place in order to evolve and progress. While this is not a women-specific post, the book Women Who Run With Wolves comes to mind as we continue to collaborate with like-minded folks who understand that this is about oh so much more than anyone’s bottom line. You know who you are. Thank You. Thank you. Thank you.

Questions about running with wolves and running your team, family, and yourself toward peak-to-peak performance? #SessionIt

When seeking guidance, don't ever listen to the tiny-hearted. Be kind to them, heap them with blessing, cajole them, but do not follow their advice. -Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With the Wolves

START UP & CLIMB FOR LIFE /// Alex McAfee

Everyone wants to be a start up business these days. Understandable.  Especially if you run in our circles of freedom fighters.

But have you ever been a part of any start-up team? Especially within a more progressive business model? Have you put in the hours? Have you honed optimal performance in any one area of life? Have you become really really clear on who you are, what your purpose is, where you are now, and where you want to be?

Navigating start-up business can be heaven and hell all at once - much like rock climbing.

Learning to maintain your center, breathe, honing a key skill such as full-blown grit, as well as soft skills that allow you long term vision, creativity, and of equal importance, vulnerability, which is quite key in finding support and community - all are essential. This will not happen overnight. Experience is everything.  And simultaneously, do you have, at your fingertips, a second set of eyes and a neutral ear to listen, support and guide you? Even if you do, family and friends, business advisors, and mentors can be awesome, but the necessary neutrality along with the skills to truly take you from peak performance to peak-to-peak performance are key. A start-up coach provides!

We decided to bring Alex McAfee into the Aprés Coaching collective as start-up coach and consultant given his vast climbing experience which refined the initial skill sets necessary to become a successful entrepreneur himself before becoming a truly independent start-up coach, consultant and advisor. Not to mention our soft spot for his commitment to supporting those with our same “make good happen” credo in place. His start-up experience within wellness, yoga, fashion and technology is truly a progressive mix where we at Aprés believe we are all headed. Here’s to future… we, too, have Alex to thank!

Outside of coaching, Alex is also CEO & Founder of Conrad Men’s, a super hot custom leather bag line for men which includes meditation cushions – we love. He is also Founder of SeekRetreat, an online yoga retreat booking destination.

SOFT SKILLS

While we are in full support of men and women equally, a lot of attention is being brought to the roles of women in business given the recent U.S. presidential election.

The majority of people who work in holistic coaching, wellness, personal development, health care, and related realms happen to be women.  Women striving - we can only assume by their chosen professions - to make the world a better place.

The world truly needs, now more than ever, the “soft skills” both women and men have to offer.  Much like any athlete, practicing is the only way to improve and expand upon those skills.

”Knowledge, education and experience – whether in the mountains or in business – are crucial, but so is developing soft skills." -John Winsor, CEO at Speakeasy Guild

The soft skills according to John Winsor include:

Vision

Anticipation

Commitment

Flow

Grit

Partners

A few more to consider…

Communication

Self-awareness

Teamwork

Collaboration

Adaptability

And, the ability to show vs. tell.

So while we are still in winter mode, NOW is great time to reassess your goals as well as your skills, especially your soft skills.  Do so before spring blooms, rolling right into summer... a sea of outdoor events, kids out of school, and enjoying the sunshine... so that you can perform at your best throughout this year.

How can you cultivate further self-awareness in order to continually reassess and improve upon your skill sets?

What are your goals?

And how can you meet them while keeping your health and sanity in check AND while continuing to make a difference?

Man or woman, we are all connected, and a second set of eyes on your future will take you from where you are now to where you want to be.

GO OUT to GO IN /// GO IN to GO OUT

Yoga.OnTheBlog.jpg

We now know that both 'going out' and 'going in' are essential to our holistic health.

Athletes such as professional snowboarder Terje Haakonsen are at the top of their game for many reasons, but when Terje was featured in the November 2013 issue of Yoga Journal where he stated he would not be the rider he is today without YOGA, we were nothing but stoked.

Sooo… it's 2017, have your rolled out your mat yet?

Yoga and snowboarding are the very foundations of so much of what we do, both personally and professionally. We are a collective of coaches who have found deep deep resolve as well as inspiration in every day yoga and/or meditation practices plus flow-finding action sports such as snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking, climbing and related.

We go in to go out. And go out to go in. Both are necessary and both allow us to find freedom, which is everything we are all about here at Aprés.

So, yeah, we back yoga 100% as there are a host of reasons it has been around for 5,000 years. We could really geek out on it extensively and shout out for all to hear that YAY! science is finally backing it, but how about a few basic truths. Connecting deep deep breath with movement allows for an integrative experience where the mind, body, gut (now known as the second brain), immune system, lymphatic system, limbic system, heart, all organs and sensory systems are involved. You will absolutely exude a better overall status post-practice. Even if it is just a little bit – take it!  So much like riding bottomless pow… that shit-eating grin on your face at après-ski will actually shift your state – and we now know this can happen even without the ride! It has now been proven by science that the body shifts the mind more so than the mind shifts the body such as in thinking your way to a better state. So dig deep for the memory, feelings, sensations of that experience, of your favorite line from last year’s ski trip, embody it, embrace it, put that smile back on your face and put the next trip on your calendar. And in the meantime, get to yoga! We promise you will eventually find flow within your yoga practice, too.

Beyond all this going in via yoga and going out via outside action sports, both to access flow...  While we do not always have to process everything first with the thinking mind and can utilize this physical body we live in to shift states, there is often still a little residue to process and clean up where many other holistic modalities, including coaching, can assist.  We don’t claim yoga alone is a cure-all.  But it is a tremendous start as well as a gracious gift to yourself and therefore those in your circles.  Coaching is just another way to support yourself in rounding out your whole being, your whole experience, to find optimal performance in all realms from health to career to relationships, therefore creating holistic health and ultimately your own personal version of freedom.  Whether you are a pro athlete or a desk jockey, it doesn’t matter. Yoga, yoga, yoga.  #SessionIt

DIVE DEEP

We’re into diving into the depths of life because that's where the magic happens.  You can refuse to step into your truth, refuse to face your fears, and take a seemingly safe, logical and predictable path, but let’s be honest… it won’t be very much fun.  Why?  Because everywhere you go, both your fears and your unmet dreams are walking right beside you.  The unacknowledged truths of your inner world will wreak havoc on your life by attracting the same unmet desires in other people, other jobs, other places, ultimately sending you into one tailspin after another.  Do you want to lose hours, weeks, years of your life to all that?  Ultimately, the choice and the responsibility is always yours. Come après with us and ride into your most desired direction. See you on the flip side!
