What’s next?  SESSION IT

Our holistic approach to optimal health and performance empowers you to discover your true potential.

Everything we do is about finding your freedom.

Why “Après”? Because “after” coaching, you will find your line.

Inspired by riding mountains and surfing oceans, Après Coaching Sessions are a nod to the discipline and diligence necessary to master these epic environments, the freedom found in doing so, and the reward of post-excursion celebrations known as après-ski. Après Sessions, on and off the mountain, are holistic meaning an integrated whole experience.

Holistic health coaching considers the whole human system to spearhead what we find in the state of “flow” resulting in optimal performance and wellness in all realms of life.

Nutrition. You Are What You Eat?

picnic.jpg

Yep. And then some.

As a holistic health coach, most folks expect me to spearhead our sessions with nutrition. And I do. While I don’t speak up a ton online about nutrition, this is number one. With this health comes everything else. My current client base has a pretty good handle on nutrition. However, we continually tweak this and that, perhaps add some super geeked out items coming from various departments depending on current needs, then sprinkle with fairy dust. But seriously…
With the assistance of my M.D. turned functional medicine doctor at close hand, we have full workups available to those interested and immense knowledge at our fingertips to refine everything head to toe.

But at the end of the day, we can eat all the kale in the world and biohack until the cows come home, yet still feel like something is missing… just not quite mostly stoked on life. Which is why we move from health coaching to holistic health coaching.

Nutrition is everything, and simultaneously just the gateway. Great nutrition allows for clear-headedness, focus, and therefore progression in all realms of life. As long as we are not orthorexic about it. Coupled with movement and a few other basics, we might even be winning major races on the mountain or on Main Street, but still not performing exceptionally on the whole. Hint: even when we think we are.

With the additions of Eastern philosophy and Western Psychology applied to what a standard health coaching certification offers, we tap further into areas that can be immensely humbling, but that truly allow for growth and progression. We then add some really cool and fun structure, and then you are on your way, taking yourself from where you are now, to where you want to be… to that extraordinary life.

CoQ10

Several male clients tell me their doctors have prescribed supplement CoQ10. A theme I have yet to investigate, but a theme nonetheless.

It is one of the most common and thoroughly researched uses in helping protect the heart and blood vessels from the damaging effects of oxidative stress (aka damage from free radicals).  CoQ10 is a common supplement to help manage conditions including heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis (#1 killer in the U.S.) and congestive heart failure.

While CoQ10 naturally occurs in almost every cell of the body, supplementing can initially bump up fighting free radicals. Heads up if you drink too much alcohol and/or smoke. CoQ10’s major role after all is to help convert what we consume into energy to power brain and body. High performers know that ingesting a zillion supplements is kind of like using training wheels - eventually we want to take them off. So supplement as we will, but really tune into nutrition. We prefer beginning with nutrition, reaching our best zone possible, and then supplementing only if you are still not quite on target.

Eat:
wild salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring
cage-free eggs, free-range chicken
spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, strawberries, oranges
grass fed beef, venison, liver & kidney meats
sesame seeds, pistachio nuts
legumes such soybeans with no GMOs

Benefits of CoQ10:
1. Sustains Natural Energy
2. Reduces Free Radical Damage – Acts as an Antioxidant
3. Can Improve Heart Health and Offset Effects of Statin Drugs
4. Slows Down Effects of Aging
5. Helps Maintain Optimal pH Levels
6. Protects Cognitive Health

CoQ10 deficiencies are not common, but know that the body’s natural production of CoQ10 does decrease with age.  If you do decide to supplement, please first reach out to our holistic health and functional medicine team in figuring what is right for you, and only you, as we are all individual. Session It.

Food ... Love It & It Will Love You Right Back

Holistic health begins with nutrition and a few other basics... with this baseline health comes everything else. We now know our gut, our brains, and our hearts are inextricably connected. Super nutrition leads to clear thinking which leads to better decisions for our minds, bodies, intuition - a.k.a. gut instinct, and our hearts. But let’s talk about food.

IMG_3694.jpeg

Let's eat what is grown naturally without artificial assistance – yes, organic. Pesticides and their friends are clearly not doing anyone any favors. There are ways to eat organic and leverage that sustainably within our budgets if need be – there is always a way.

Let’s eat with the seasons. Eat raw lighter greens when they come into abundance when the weather is warm. Eat hearty sautéed greens when the cold weather chills you to the bone and calls for foods that support you against frigid temps. Enjoy fresh fruit as it is available locally in summer and baked squashes in fall and winter. Nature knows. It offers you what is best for you and right on time.

Let's make our own food more often. Let's put our own hands in our food with intention as we prepare it. Allow this action to ground us and by all means take us away from technology a few evenings each week.

Let's thank those who grew our food and especially those who do so with your overall wellbeing in mind allowing for vitality and longevity in order to support yourself and your families well into the future.

Let’s fall in love with food again versus seeing it as something that is against us. All the green juice in the world isn’t going to save us from ourselves, so by all means pay attention to food, but we must also look past food as a vehicle for change. Good quality food is your friend. And when you love it and enjoy it, you can certainly eat cake more than once a year on your birthday.

Let's eat, drink and be merry. Let’s enjoy the many sensations of good food, welcome water and wine, move, breathe, work smart, rest often, dance, love and enjoy life. Let's love good quality food and experience just how much it will love you right back. Let's start today. #SessionIt

WITH HEALTH COMES EVERYTHING ELSE /// ORGANIC LABELING

organic-food-nutrition

At Aprés Coaching, we really do believe that with health comes everything else. Not to say there are not other realms to be considered beyond nutrition and exercise. But it has been published time and time again, backed by science, that our gut is now considered our second brain. What you consume affects not only your physical body, but your mind and your emotions.

When you are eating well, you are clear-headed, potentially more aware of yourself as well as your words and actions, more productive, and simply feel good. This in turn affects yourself, your relationships, your career, your entire reality for the better.

Organic foods can be a stretch for many to understand, approach, and sometimes to make sense of financially. Holistic health coaches can arm you with information, answer your why’s, and look at all aspects of your life in order to tweak certain areas so that you can easily add in organics where you can.

Understanding labeling is a first step.  HERE, Whole Foods Market breaks down organic labeling, so that you can put your knowledge toward your buying power. Start where you are. Embrace change. Food is medicine. Be well.
